All Sorted Ep 30: Christmas List 2015
|This episode Jeff and James make their Christmas wishlist, helping you find a LEGO gem for that special someone (possibly yourself).
Best Animal Sets
- Beautiful realistic brick-built birds.
- Robin from Europe
- Blue Jay from North America
- Hummingbird from South America
- Includes presentation stands showing their scientific names.
- Brick-built articulated monkey and toucan, with alt. Builds of a Teddy Bear and a Squirrel.
LEGO Friends Jungle Rescue Base
- If you like your animals cute and happy, this is the set for you. You get:
- Baby Panda, Iguana, chimpanzee, and parrot to rescue.
- Tree-fort lookout tower, medical tent, and even an outhouse!
LEGO Elves Aira’s Pegasus Sleigh
- IF you think the LEGO friends animals are “too realistic” then you need to get this set.
- 2 pegasi: Starshine and Rufus
- Miku the baby dragon
- A cool flying sleigh that looks like a fun build.
- Add some cold weather animals to your LEGO zoo.
- 4 huskies
- 1 Polar Bear!
- Also get a fair amount of tank treads, and so much beautiful orange LEGO.
Best Boats
- If you had to fight evil super villains as an elite “Ultra Agent” this is the boat you would use:
- Futuristic black and translucent blue colour scheme? Check
- Lots of hidden guns to back up the always visible guns? Check.
- Your clandestine organizations logo emblazoned all over your secrete warship? Check
- See through computer screens galore? Check
- OKAY, let’s go fight evil (as long as they are on the water).
- Sometimes you just want to take LEGO into the bathtub with you. This is the set to do it with! It really floats!
- More lovely orange too.
LEGO City Deep Sea Exploration Vessel
- Technically two boats in this set as you get:
- Deep Sea Vessel and a Shipwreck.
- Almost made the animal list, but I don’t find sharks, a swordfish and an octopus to be cute and cuddly.
LEGO Ninjago Final Flight of Destiny’s Bounty
- This ship is gorgeous, even if I have cheated a little by including it, as it really is an airship, and not a boat, but I don’t care, it looks so nice.
- It’s big, it’s red, it’s ninja-y. I have 0 Ninjago sets, but I want this one (and another to be named later)
- You also get a bunch of ninjas and ninja ghosts (20% cooler then regular ninjas) as well as a brick-built dragon!
- To make a list of LEGO Boats and not include a pirate ship is unthinkable, thankfully LEGO revived the pirate line again this year, and gave us this great interpretation of a classic pirate ship.
- The choice of what pirate ship to put on this list was a toss-up between this one and the LEGO Movie’s MetalBeard’s Sea Cow – and while MetalBeard’s ship is a lot of fun. It’s cartoonish dimensions loose out to the classic lines of the Brick Bounty.
Best Building
LEGO Creator Expert Detective’s Office
- Looks great – nice pop of colour
- I love the story of the baking outlaw being the love interest of the detective tasked with finding the source of the illegal treats.
- Looks as good on the inside as out.
LEGO Ninjago Temple of Airjitzu
- Beautiful Asian inspired architecture.
- Great use of colour.
- Those printed windows look so good.
- The details make this set.
- Frozen Jasper to donuts to the secret garden on top.
- Instantly recognizable.
LEGO Scooby-Doo Mystery Mansion
- Somehow manages to look cartoony and spooky at the same time.
- The run-down greenhouse adds a lot of flavour to the building.
- The crooked pillars of the entryway set the tone for the rest of the building.
LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Attack on Avengers Tower
- The only completely enclosed building made for the Super Heroes line.
- Easy to add floors to make it more impressive in height by buying multiple copies. (plus then you get more Iron Legion)
- Lots of blue trans windows allows you to see the minifigs on the inside while on display.
Best set under $20
LEGO Movie Batman & Super Angry Kitty Attack
- $9.99
- Batman, a skeleton, brick-built Super Angry Kitty and a fun Micro-manager build.
- Any Mixel makes a great gift, fun to build and play with. Getting all 3 allows the recipient to build combine all three into the mega mixel.
- I like the Weldos because Wuzzo has a chainsaw for a face. I feel like Tim Burton should do a movie based on Wuzzo about how hard it is to find love when your face is a power tool.
LEGO Creative Supplement Bright
- 300pc for $20 is always a good way to go.
- Great mix of bricks from the more colourful end of LEGO’s palette.
- Great way to shut someone up who says, “LEGO was way better when I was a kid, now it’s all about following instructions…”
- LEGO City has a lot of sets in the under $20 price point, and really, you can’t go wrong with any of them, but I chose this one for a couple of reasons.
- 3 times the swoshability – two racing bikes and a truck!
- It comes with a trophy, and who doesn’t like to be given a trophy?
- Get your own private island for less than $20? Excellent. Sure you have to fight off pirates with a cannon and a crocodile, but don’t worry, you get a little gun to do it.
- Another set that shows how much personality and play a great LEGO designer can pack into a small set.

- 10 Minifigs:
- a ride operator, ice cream vendor, 4 children and 4 adults
